ATTIC INSULATION

Free Attic Inspection

Whether you are looking for the condition of your attic or insulation levels or have condensation or leak issues, our inspection is free and without obligation.

What do we do in the inspection?

We do a full attic inspection—yes, we go inside and not only take a peek from the ladder.

With the help of our thermal camera, we can determine variations in the temperature and heat loss.

The inspection takes about 30 minutes.

Attic Insulation

Home Comfort and Energy Savings

Insulation, air sealing, and airflow are crucial for your home’s comfort and energy savings year-round.

An attic that doesn’t have proper insulation will end up costing you more on your heating and cooling bills, leaving some rooms feeling uncomfortable and causing temperature differences throughout your home.

Top up blown-in insulation

When to top up your attic insulation?

Sometimes, only a few inches of insulation is needed to increase thermal resistance and make a home more energy efficient, as long as the attic has been installed and air sealed properly and the current insulation is free of mold or pests.

With time, the insulation, especially cellulose, settles and packs, reducing its thermal resistance. Topping up is the fastest and most cost-effective solution.

How much more insulation is needed?

Knowing how much you need to add is necessary to measure the current value. Let’s say your attic has R30, which is a low value in Alberta homes. The province recommends R60 as the best value in the attic. So, it all depends on your budget and needs. You can add from R10 to R60.

Complete Attic restoration

A complete attic restoration is needed when:

  1. Your attic has been dealing with severe heat leaks and attic condensation.
  2. Wildlife often nests in attics. If you’ve had pest problems, your insulation is likely contaminated.
Air leakage significantly impacts air quality, comfort, and home health. Air moves between the house and the attic due to pressure differences. When conditioned air escapes into the attic, you lose energy. Additionally, if air is drawn from the attic into the home, it can bring poor air quality, dust, and insulation particles, especially if the attic has a rodent infestation, creating unhealthy living conditions.

Airflow

Your attic needs to work in harmony with your roof ventilation. Unfortunately, many insulation companies add more insulation, often blocking or neglecting to include intake or exhaust vents. This can lead to ice damming and condensation issues. Since we specialize in both roofing and insulation, we ensure that your attic functions effectively.

Restoring your attic can be costly, but it is worth the investment, as it guarantees savings on energy costs for heating and cooling your home.

Exhaust vents

Does your roof leak during freezing temperatures?

This is usually due to attic condensation caused by the exhaust fans. Improper installation of the exhaust fan with the roof vent can significantly impact your attic and insulation during winter.

Leaks in the exhaust fans are usually the primary source of condensation, which is also the reason for yellow spots in the ceilings due to all the ice and water that can accumulate in winter.

Roof ventilation upgrade

Roof ventilation is crucial for extending your shingles’ life span and helps maintain the comfort of your living area year-round.

Excesses of heat or cold can get trapped in your attic; proper ventilation will help to reduce condensation problems in winter and exhaust extra heat in summer.

We work with different types of ventilation depending on the configuration of your roof and attic space.

If you are unsure if your roof ventilation needs an upgrade, don’t worry—we can provide you with a free consultation and estimate.
